The Chomolhari trek in Bhutan is an adventure seeker’s dream, offering breathtaking views, cultural immersion, and a profound connection with nature. This trek is named after the majestic mount Chomolhari (Jomolhari), which stands at an impressive 7,326m/24,035ft tall, making it one of the highest peaks in Bhutan. We also have chance to see the Tiger Monastery and the sites of Paro and the capital, Thimphu. Look beyond the wires and you will be treated to amazing scenery that ranges from the picturesque valleys of Paro and Thimphu, to the incredible mountain vistas of Chomolhari, Jichu Drake and Tshrim Khang. Throughout the trek you will be weaving your way through Rhododendron forests and over glacial streams.

One of the highlights of the Chomolhari trek is crossing high mountain passes, such as the breathtaking Nyele La pass, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. Throughout the trek, trekkers have the opportunity to interact with the friendly locals, predominantly of the ethnic Bhutanese group known as the Drukpa. DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 01. Arrival in Kathmandu
After arriving in Kathmandu you will be picked up from airport representative and transfer to hotel. Presentation of the staff, briefing with the guides and verification of the equipment. We will serve authentic nepalese cuisine with cultural show in the evening.

Day 02. Kathmandu to Paro by plane and to Thimphu by car
Upon arrival at Paro Airport, you will be warmly greeted by our representative. After completing the necessary formalities, you’ll be driven to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. The drive offers scenic views of the lush valleys and peaceful landscapes as you make your way through the winding mountain roads. The journey takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Once in Thimphu, you’ll check in to your hotel and have some time to relax before enjoying a warm dinner.

Day 03. Paro: sightseeing
Today is dedicated to exploring the cultural and historical sites in Paro. Start your day by visiting the Drukgyel Dzong, a historic fortress offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valley. Next, head to the Ta Dzong (National Museum), housed in a former watchtower, where you can learn about Bhutan’s rich history, culture, and art. Afterward, visit the Rinpung Dzong, an impressive monastery and fortress with beautiful architecture and peaceful courtyards. Finish your sightseeing with a visit to the Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest and most important temples, known for its spiritual significance and serene surroundings.

Day 04. Paro (2,280m/7,480ft) to Drugyel Dzong (2,580m/8,464ft) and to Shana (2,850m/9,350ft), 5-6 hours
Climbing up the ridges. The actual trek starts from Drukgyel Dzong. From here you look back to see how Dzong was positioned. After covering short distance you will find settlement of Chang Zampa. A further walk takes to settlement of Mitshi Zampa finding little shops and hotels. The valley widens and you will reach at army post of Gunyitsawa where there are also primary schools and shops.

Day 05. Shana (2,850m/9,350ft) to Soi-Thangthangka (3,580m/11,745ft), 6-7 hours
The trek continues at side of Pa Chu through conifers and rhododandron coming across Jigme Dorji Wangchuk national park. By making gentle climb on the rock through oak, crossing several steams come across Phari Dzong of Tibet. Then climb little ridge, cross the Paro Chu on a wooden bridge. Finally come across Thangthangka, where bhutanese style house are there.

Day 06. Soi-Thangthangka (3,580m/11,745ft) to Jangothang-base Chomolhari (4,080m/13,385ft), 5-6 hours
At night Jumolhariis covered with cloud, but be sure to view early in the morning. Jumolhariappears behind the a ridge. Less than an hour from camp at 3,730m/12,237ft is army post. A short climb leads to small chorten finding yak country. Making further climb come across Takethang clustered of stone houses on plateau at 3940m/12,926ft.

Day 07. Jangothang-base camp (4,080m/13,385ft): acclimatization day
This day is set aside for acclimatization. A great opportunity to explore the area around Jangothang and enjoy some of the best views of the trek. After about an hour of climbing, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of both Jichu Drake and mount Jumolhari. For a more extensive view of the surrounding country, you can trek to Nyile La pass, continuing toward Lingzhi.

Day 08. Jangothang-base camp Chomolhari (4,080m/13,385ft) to Lingshi (4,010m/13,156ft), 5-6 hours
If you have problem with altitude don’t go to Lingshi. Ten minutes after beyond the camp, finds settlements. This is the last settlements in the valley and is extremely isolated places. From this place you can also view Jichu Drake. Passing by you can see Jumolharipeak. Then it comes across Nyile La at 4,890m/16,043ft. Dropping down to the valley and stop for lunch here. Trekking further see army camp, where Jumolharipeak is visible. At last coming to Lingshi.

Day 09. Lingshi (4,010m/13,156ft) to Shodu (3,750m/12,303ft), 8-9 hours
The Laya Gasa route begins by leaving the Jumolhari range and climbing steeply from the camp toward Dzong, passing a white chorten. The trail then ascends steeply to Yeli La Pass at 4,820m (15,813ft). On a clear day, you can enjoy stunning views of Jumolhari, Gangchhenta, Tserim Kang, and Masang Gang. After crossing the pass, the trek continues downhill toward Shodu.

Day 10. Shodu (3,750m/12,303ft) to Barshong (3,720m/12,205ft), 5-6 hours
The trek begins with a series of river crossings, as you cross the river six times on sturdy bridges made from massive logs. The trail is gentle but winding, offering scenic views along the way. After some steady walking, you’ll gradually climb upwards. Within about an hour, the path brings you to Barshong, a small settlement nestled in the valley. Here, you’ll encounter the ruins of an old dzong, which adds an element of history to the surroundings. The peaceful atmosphere of the area, combined with the rugged, untouched beauty, makes this a memorable stop.

Day 11. Barshong (3,720m/12,205ft) to Dolam Kencho (3,320m/10,892ft), 5-6 hours
The trek continues through dense forests of rhododendron, birch, and conifers, providing plenty of shade and a beautiful environment. The path gradually descends towards the Thimphu Chhu river, offering scenic views of the lush surroundings. As you continue, the trail leads you to Dolam Kencho, where you’ll set up camp at an altitude of 3,430m (11,253ft). The day’s hike is peaceful and relatively moderate, allowing you to soak in the natural beauty and tranquility of the area.

Day 12. Dolam Khencho (3,320m/10,892ft) to Dodina and to Thimphu (2,320m/7,656ft) by car, 3 hours
The trek continues through a mix of conifer and broadleaf forests, winding in and out of the dense vegetation. You’ll pass through a small pass at (3,510m/11,515ft), where the views are serene and the air crisp. After crossing the pass, the trail begins to descend steadily, leading you towards Dodina, where you’ll reach the roadhead. From here, you’ll be driven back to Thimphu, marking the end of your trek. The final stretch is an easy, gradual descent, giving you time to reflect on the journey before reaching the comforts of the city.

Day 13. Thimphu: sightseeing
Today is dedicated to exploring the capital city of Thimphu. Start by visiting the Memorial Chorten, a striking white stupa that honors the third King of Bhutan. Next, head to the Tashichhodzong, an impressive fortress-monastery that houses government offices and the King’s throne room. Continue your cultural journey with a visit to the National Library, home to ancient Buddhist texts and manuscripts. Then, explore the Painting School, where traditional Bhutanese arts and crafts are taught and preserved. Afterward, visit the Traditional Medicine Institute to learn about Bhutan’s unique approach to holistic healing. Finally, finish your day at the Handicrafts Emporium, where you can shop for locally made arts, crafts, and souvenirs.

Day 14. Thimphu to Paro by car and to Kathmandu by plane
We will transfer to Paro airport for the departure flight and pickup Kathmandu airport, after arriving hotel. This is the free day for you and you can enjoy yourself around the city. In the evening there will be a Typical Nepali Dinner organized for you in the Typical Nepali restaurant with cultural program.

Day 15. Kathmandu: sightseeing and free shopping
After breakfast take an excursion visit. Today we will go for sightseeing Swyambhunath, Pasupatinath temple, Bouddhanath and Patan. World heritage site and freely shopping day. Evening there will be a typical nepali dinner organized for you in the typical nepali restaurant.

Day 16. Final departure
You will have breakfast and you will be free until your departure. A representative will take you airport for your final departure.
